vendemmia 2014At the beginning of September a debate about Amarone 2014 took place in Valpolicella: because of the bad weather condition during Summer, some wineries announced they wouldn’t put grapes to dry for making Amarone. We decided to wait until the last phase of grapes maturation to evaluate the real condition of them before deciding what to do.

Luckily, the weather during the second half of September has been warm, dry and sunny: this allowed the grapes to reach the maturation level that the weather conditions of the previous weeks had considerably delayed.

The grapes put to dry can’t be defined “excellent”, but we think that are appropriate to get a final product good enough to maintain the quality standard of our wines.

The harvest is just the first step of the production of such a complex wine. “Appassimento”, pressing and fermentation, the long rest in the cellar: there’s a lot of work to do and the variables to face are many. We, as usual, will work hard to make our best believing that, even without the precondition of a great vintage, we can get a wine with its own peculiarities, an “ancient style” Amarone maybe, close to the Valpolicella Classica original one.
